Yes since most of my girls are old and therefore already have all their Pleasant Company clothes or can't fit into them, they need outsifts form outside sources and they prefer hamdmade clothes to mass-produced. I prefer outfits that are historically and culturally accurate. There is a lady who sells at a local craft fair and does quite well. This site, American Doll Boutique is one of my favorites and the lady seems to do very well.

    Good luck with your endeavor!

I guess I'm one of the few that prefers handmade to the authentic AG clothing. I do buy the authentic AG clothing but I simply cannot resist the cute dresses made by professional seamstresses. The outfits I've bought vary in quality but they're all adorable. I really like the one of a kind idea in that I can own something no one else has.

I would like to buy replicas of retired items (esp Kirsten's blue checked dress and apron). I am currently trying to knit a coat similar to Kirsten's skating coat. I have bought a lot of non-AG clothes. There are some great seamstresses out there! Good luck with your project!

I have 3 nightgowns for dolls that came with some old nightgowns I got as a kid.

I have a lot of non-AG clothes that my mom made for Molly. They are sentimental to me since I usually an outfit to match for myself. I also have a few dresses from HB members, which are quite lovely. And then there's the occasional Target/Walmart outfit I'll pick up secondhand or something. I don't usually buy Battat clothing, but I have in the past.

I don't usually buy anything but AG. Even if something is really special, I usually don't buy it. I really prefer to keep my collection AG.

That being said, I have thought about sewing for resale. I used to, and did pretty well. I found that I had two markets. 1: Parents buying for kids, and wanting a bargain, 2: Adult collectors. So I tried to cater to both. Good luck with whatever you do. I know how it is to get burned out at one thing, and need to change to another.

I have one outfit in my doll closet that I made for Addy, right after I got her in 1993. I need to take it out sometime and put it on her. I also have one Build -a-Bear outfit that I bought after Christmas. I was mostly curious to see if it would fit or not. It's a little bit big, but I put it on Jess once.

Once I get my doll room set up, I plan to sew for my own dolls, for sure. Other than that....I will likely continue to buy only AG.

Thanks so much everyone for all your wonderful comments. This has been really helpful. I have mostly been sewing for my dd's dolls. I only own the Addy original patterns and have been trying to get the others on ebay. But right now I'm broke!hehe! I will try to post some pics of things I've made.
I wasn't planning on doing a whole lot of ebay, as it seems like that market is saturated with AG doll clothes. I was hoping to do some local shows and word of mouth selling online. I agree that a lot of sewers tend to make little girl dresses. I was hoping to do some contemporary clothes, taking cues from what my own dd is asking for.
I also love history and have spent quite a lot of time recreating historical outfits for my cloth dolls. So I will certainly do historical clothes. I would love to concentrate a little more on Kit and Addy, as those are 2 of my favorite era's, and they haven't been done to death(like Sam's victorian clothes and Kirsten's pioneer stuff) Thank you all so much for your input, and there are some great ideas here!
    ~Annie
